Some people believe that the more expensive a pair of shoes is, the better it must be. But are expensive or designer shoes worth the extra money?

Sometimes, but not always.

There are several factors that contribute to the price of a pair of shoes.

The materials used play a big role in the final price of any product. Specialty leathers and exotic skins are far more expensive than a basic black leather, and Swarovski crystals cost much more than simple rhinestones. But there are other, less tangible, factors in pricing as well.

Creating a quality and comfortable shoe takes research, time and effort -- and manufacturing costs and methods can vary greatly. Some popular brands use hand-crafting techniques that are paid for every time a pair of shoes is made, instead of using underpaid labor or machines that are paid off after the first few lines are released.

And then fake cole Haan Shoes, there is the concept that seems most difficult for many to wrap their heads around: talent costs money. When you see a pair of shoes that you're just dying to have, there's a talented designer behind them. Their time, creativity, and ability to create a unique design is as billable as an accountant's skill with taxes.

All of these things cost money, so a high quality shoe will likely be more expensive than a flip-flop made in your neighbor's garage from a hunk of rubber with two rubber bands for straps.

But that doesn't necessarily mean that a $300 pair of shoes is substantially better or more comfortable than an $80 pair of shoes. Sometimes designer and brand labels cost more, simply because the consumer will pay it.

The best way to determine which shoes are worth the extra money is to try the shoes on for yourself, and rely on the opinions of friends and experts that you trust.

Many people have trouble understanding the vision benefits associated with their Medicare plan. The truth is, eye care becomes more and more important as we grow older. Not only does our vision tend to change, but the probability of developing eye conditions or diseases increases as well. Many people who have enjoyed a quality vision plan as a part of their employee benefits package during their working adult life are quite surprised when they turn 65 and convert to Medicare and a supplemental insurance plan. Unfortunately, the annual comprehensive vision exam and eyeglasses orcontacts lenses may no longer be a part of their plan.

Imagine Andrew Lloyd Webber's Phantom Of The Opera starring Lady Gaga in the title role, directed by Tim Burton. Then you'll imagine all the characters wearing Victor Hugo's Material Memorieeyewear, all at once a theatrical production of the macabre, exotic, unconventional, and glamorous.

The Designer:

Visual artist and designer Victor Hugo honed his craft at leading art and design schools in the US studying illustration and graphic design while dabbling in fashion design, photography and sculpture. Before founding Material Memorie in July 2010, Hugo created props and window displays for big retailers with a side passion for making and costume pieces—transitioning to masks and eyewear was an easy transition. After making ,Lady Gaga-inspired shades for friends, his goth-glam pieces became a hit among runway and urban street fashion circles.

Full disclosure: I have long legs and a butt I'm always trying to boost through exercise, but which can look flat in jeans. I often have a hard time finding "tall" jeans that don't give my rear end that dreaded "pancake" look. When you shop for jeans, first you need to cover the basics -- a pair that fits your frame, works with the other items in your wardrobe and is a decent quality construction. Affordability is key too, but personally, I'm willing to splurge on a designer denim brand, if the jean delivers on a few extras -- namely trendiness and the afore-mentioned butt-boosting quality.

So when I tried on the Kaylie Slim Fit Bootcut by 7 for All Mankind, I was not only inspired to buy a pair but to share my experience of this jeans cut. All in all, this is a great jean to add to your wardrobe this year, especially if you're a tall, slender gal like me.

If you have an eye disease or eye injury your regular health insurance will pay for diagnosis and treatment. However, most regular health insurance policies do not pay for the costs of routine eye exams, corrective lenses, eyeglass frames, or contact lenses. Insurance coverage for such services is known as vision care insurance.

Some large employers do provide vision care insurance as a benefit but most do not. According to the U.S. Department of Labor, less than 30% of employees receive vision care coverage.
